Went and saw Tim Meadows at iO last night. Dude is hilarious!
Christmas was mellow, weekend was mellow. Didn't really want to be around people at all, was content to watch 50 million hours of TV. Went to the gym a couple of times.
Got an invite for a NYE house party that is only a few blocks from my place. Sweet. I was going to go see one of my teacher's improv shows, but on a cold Chicago December night, Chicago streets full of drunk idiots, I think a radius of 7 blocks from my home will be pretty awesome.
Last night I went out to this "martinis and manicures" event where you get a manicure and all the martinis you can drink in a 2-hour period. Sipping on key lime martinis was a good way to deal with such a stormy nasty night. This one guy had 9 martinis (hello pace yourself) and then insisted he was sober enough to drive home. In the ICE STORM. Who does that? No one is sober after 9 drinks. Also his job: Repo homes. We were giving him a hard time since he said he had to work today--oh great go kick people out of their homes on Christmas Eve, awesome! There may be certain occupations that keep you single, that may be one of them.
Today I am at work, we get out at 1. It is very, very quiet. Hardly anyone is here. I couldn't find my phone this morning. I must have left it at the bar. Gah drunk Beth, why you have to do that? The bar opens at noon today so I'll give them a call. If they don't have it, I'll have to get a new phone.
So it's gotten to where I am forced to watch ads on here before I can read my friends page. I have a free account, that's why. Maybe it's time to abandon my livejournal.
What keeps you here on livejournal? I've been blogging here about 8 years. Crazy!
I've grown pretty attached, especially to the Craig Ferguson fan community. We'll see.
So I decided that today is the day to stop being a weenie and go get my computer checked out after work. I was going to wait until after the 25th to avoid the crowds but I've been a couple weeks now without a computer at home. Instead of reading or something I've been watching a lot of TV, and if I see another diamonds/holiday commercial I'll probably shoot myself.
I really like Christmas lights but otherwise this has got to be my least favorite holiday.
I had my show Sunday at Second City! I think it went well. Tonight after going to the madness that is downtown Chicago before Xmas I am going to see one of my old teachers perform at iO, then this weekend I am hoping to get tickets to see Tim Meadows at iO.
I need an ugly sweater that says God Is Dead on it.
As I mentioned before I'm kind of obsessed with Hungry Girl. I'm reading some of her archived e-newsletters, and found this cool little comparison list. I totally want to go to IHOP now and get the Buttermilk Trio for Me. Also, I love/hate how salads are often one of the worst things on the menu at restaurants.
IHOPNot Bad... Buttermilk Trio For Me (on the IHOP For Me menu) - 380 calories and 2g saturated fat.
Really Sad... Breakfast Sampler - 1,250 calories and 24g saturated fat!!!
California Pizza Kitchen
Not Bad... Pesto Chicken Thin Crust pizza (one slice) - 155 calories.
Really Sad... Field Greens salad - 1,372 calories!!!
Outback Steakhouse
Not Bad... Seared Ahi Tuna appetizer - 432 calories and 3g saturated fat.
Really Sad... Kookaburra Wings appetizer - 1,459 calories and 31g saturated fat!!!
I work right by a Cost Plus World Market so I often stock up on these sugar free Torani syrups. I mix them with sparkling water to make my own "soda." I also mix them with cottage cheese in a blender to make a sort of pudding/cheesecake snack. Today I got french vanilla and hazelnut. Tis the season for junk food at work. My so far successful tactic is to snack on Tootsie pops. They are very sweet and take awhile to finish. The pure sugar of tootsie pops is much lower calorie than the fat-laden brownies and cheesy popcorn in the kitchen. Right now I am enjoying a watermelon flavored tootsie pop. Plans for the rest of the week--My plan tonight is to work out. Tomorrow night the plan is to go see one of my Second City teacher's shows at iO. Friday night I may go to the improv jam at iO. Saturday I volunteer in the morning, then will go out for a drink with the other volunteers. Saturday night I go see some rad art with alcippe. Sunday is my improv show! We're going to start practicing at 12:30 and then our show starts at 2 p.m. Then we'll probably go to Corcoran's afterward. Last night Craig Ferguson's show was all hosted by one of his puppets! And the whole show was puppets! A puppet did the interviews! It was pure WTF awesomeness. Here's a taste.

Work has been pretty chill for me this week. I'll take it. Though it would have been nice to have some chillness during the summer months instead, so I could have gone to Ravinia/free concerts in Pritzker Pavilion instead of working until 9 p.m. Now I am chilled out and stuck inside. But better chill now than never.
In my free time I spend a lot of time at the Hungry Girl Web site: www.hungry-girl.com. This Web site currently informs all of my food purchases. Just yesterday I ordered 2 cases of Vitalicious products. I'm not sure they'll all fit in my freezer when they arrive.
